Review: Anthony's Pizza

Based on a visit from 2 Oct 17, Oct 18, 2017

Location: Andrews Air Force Base - Base Exchange food court

Anthony's Pizza is a place that anyone who has spent a decent amount of time on military bases is definitely familiar with. It is the AAFES (Army & Air Force Exchange Service) pizza chain, and once upon a time was located at just about every Army and Air Force base in the world. Due to many factors, including bad publicity, a rise in viable options, and a questionable product, Anthony's Pizza is a dying brand. Honestly, I don't understand the hate. Many people dismiss it as unappealing, but I find it to be a perfectly acceptable option. I think it beats the pants off of the chain that is currently replacing Anthony'...(more)

REVIEW: Dough Boys Pizza

Casual Virginia Beach venue, Jun 22, 2019

Location: 2410 Atlantic Ave, Virginia Beach, VA - https://doughboyspizza.com/

We drove down to Virginia Beach for our anniversary since we had not had a chance to really experience it yet. We were near there for a wedding on the beach, but it was a residential area, so it didn't really count. A couple of blocks from where we parked, Google Maps showed this place and with it, pretty good reviews, so off we went. The venue was a typical beach place, with indoor and outdoor seating and a bar straddling both areas. We sat outside and were pleasantly surprised by the availability of pizza by the slice any way you want it. I went with two sl...(more)

REVIEW: Whole Foods

A cleaner by the slice option, Jan 5, 2020

Location: 18403 Blanco Rd, San Antonio, TX - www.wholefoodsmarket.com

We try to eat clean and natural/organic when we can, and so Whole Foods is a place we stop by fairly often for groceries. When that coincides with needing to eat, I'll often get a couple of slices of pizza while I am there. Getting an entire pizza is totally unreasonable, price-wise, but a couple of slices usually runs about 6 bucks which is not bad and totally filling enough. The biggest problem Whole Foods runs into is volume - it is a low volume pizza seller, yet it wants to have several types on hand for people to buy whenever so the pizza tends to not be f...(more)

REVIEW: We The Pizza

Trendy place, but is it a delicious place?, Apr 9, 2022

Location: 4201 Wilson Blvd., Arlington, VA - https://wethepizza.com/

I had a work trip to the DC area and it was a busy one without much time to go places or do anything, really. Luckily, a place I've never tried was just a 1/2 block from my hotel: We The Pizza. I love the name and the vibe and hey, they sold pizza by the slice - perfect. The second night of this event people were grouping up to go to some fancy place where I'd probably end up spending upwards of $40 to get mediocre food that wasn't pizza, so I skipped out on that and walked over to this place by myself. I order myself up a couple of slices of pepperoni and a drink. Since...(more)

Pizzamancer

Ever since a fateful day in the mid to late 80s when my dad said, "Whatever you want" and I got my first pepperoni pizza, pizza has been my favorite food. And that is exactly how I think pizza is best - pepperoni and cheese. Sure, some other toppings are fine from time to time, but for my money, I'll take extra pepperoni.
